Description

Sint-Vituscollege, a secondary school serving the communities of Bussum and Naarden in North Holland province, offers all levels of Dutch secondary education, ranging from junior general secondary education/preparatory secondary vocational education, to pre-university education.

The school is located between a protected nature reserve and an old, exclusive residential district, replete with parks, sports fields and spacious gardens. The design for the extension of the school building respected this leafy, suburban setting by ‘elevating’ the extension of the school and presenting it as a standalone pavilion-like structure.

Under the construction volume, there is a practice field made from synthetic turf, as well as outdoor stands for the adjoining sports field. By detaching the existing school building from the new building, we created a campus-like setting that offers pupils an informal and spacious environment that blends in well with the scenery and the sports fields.
